First up for In The Dark: Just The Hits! There
are literally thousands of grape varieties, but over 70% of the wine
consumed in the U.S. is with just seven of these - namely Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah and
Sauvignon Blanc. These grapes each have clear varietal characteristics,
but the wines can vary significantly based on producer, vintage, region,
winemaking style and numerous other factors. For this blind
tasting, we are going to tackle four of these grape varieties with two
different wines from each grape, one from the new world and one from
from the old world. We will keep the vintage the same for each grape and
seek to show examples that are traditionally made versions. We
are seeking from you one wine from the following four wine categories,
which will be chosen based on the first guest to email us (4 spots are available and are first come, first serve). We will
provide the contrasting wine for the blind tasting.
New World = USA, South America, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia
Old World = Europe
1) 2017 New Sauvignon Blanc
2) 2017 Old World Chardonnay
3) 2016 Old World Pinot Noir
